QLD REVS Check: PPSR and Rego Explained
A QLD REVS check is no longer a separate state search. For finance and available stolen or written-off records, search the national PPSR using the VIN. For Queensland registration status, use Transport and Main Roads. You need both checks to answer both questions.

A QLD REVS check used to describe a state vehicle encumbrance search. Queensland REVS closed with other state registers when the PPSR started in 2012. The PPSR now provides the national vehicle security-interest search.

Which Queensland check answers which question?
A Queensland plate can help you check rego, but it cannot replace a PPSR search. Ask the seller for the VIN and compare it on the car and registration papers.

Written-off vehicles in Queensland
Queensland’s written-off vehicle register is shared nationally and can be accessed through PPSR information. A repairable write-off may return to the road only after the required safety certificate and written-off vehicle inspections. A statutory write-off cannot be re-registered.

A practical order before you pay
First, check the Queensland rego record using the plate and compare the displayed details with the vehicle. Next, obtain the VIN from the car and paperwork and run a PPSR search on the day you buy or the day before. Finally, arrange an independent inspection and resolve any finance or write-off entry.

If you have only the plate
Use the Queensland registration service to check rego status. Then ask the seller to show you the VIN on the car and documents. Do not enter a plate into a site that claims it will provide an official PPSR search solely from that plate.
